Elphie was immediately different upon birth, mostly just because her skin was, well, green. But she eventually went off to school and Shiz University, where she was forced to room with Galinda (later Glinda). Both girls hated each other ever so, but eventually they did bond, shortly after Fiyero came to school. When Animals started getting mistreated, Elphie was immediately worried about it, and did as much as she could for the cause, especially after she learned of Dr. Dillamond’s death. She and Glinda and Fiyero worked together, and when she was given the opportunity to see the Wizard in the Emerald City, she hoped she’d be able to discuss the problem with him, but it turned out he just wanted her for his side. So she instead decided to do her own thing, and everyone basically believed she was evil. In the end, she and Fiyero ended up together (though he was a scarecrow, oopsie) and she and Glinda acknowledged their best-friend-ness just before Elphie’s faked death (no, she did not really melt).
